World Party: Exploring Culture through Celebrations, Grades 1-3
Ms. Carrie

Learn how the world celebrates by going on a global journey to some of the coolest places on Earth. Students will explore the traditions and significance of cultural events from every continent with respect for humanity’s diversity and dignity.

From La Tamborrada de San Sebastián in Spain to Japan’s Tanabata Festival, people across the world celebrate to welcome the new year, honor their ancestors, give thanks for a good harvest, or to express joy and love for all. In this session, we will explore one of these diverse festivals each week, while building cultural awareness, respect for others, empathy, and the importance of self-expression.
Through stories, crafts, music, games, and more, we will get into the groove of each experience, nurturing our curiosity, creativity, and connection in a fun, welcoming environment. Along the way, we will even learn a little inclusive history from the perspective of voices and viewpoints that may have been left out of the celebration stories in the past. We will dance, we will sing, and we will share in the wonder of some global good times. Are you ready for a WORLD PARTY??

If your child has ever dreamed of being on Broadway, this is the class for them! Using mini musicals (15-30-minute musicals), your child will learn the basics of performing. Singing, dancing, and acting – a triple threat! Each semester will culminate with a performance showcasing musical theater skills.
Homework Expectations: Students will be expected to listen to music at home and memorize lines. Communication will be provided through Google Classroom.

Musical Theater: Acting Track, Grades 6+
Ms. Caroline

In this engaging, performance-based course, students will build foundational skills in acting, choral singing, and stage collaboration, all leading to a full-scale musical production at the end of the school year. **This class takes up TWO class sessions**

Description:
This course takes up TWO class sessions. Please register for BOTH acting track sessions in order for your child to participate.
In this engaging, performance-based course, students will build foundational skills in acting, choral singing, and stage collaboration, all leading to a full-scale musical production at the end of the school year.
If your student would like to participate in set crew, prop building, and design rather than acting on stage, please see Musical Theater: Tech Crew Track.
Phase 1: Building Skills & Community
The first several weeks of class will focus on essential techniques and group-building. Students will engage in acting exercises, choral training, improvisation, and memorization projects. This phase is not just about skill development, but also about fostering a supportive and creative ensemble. Throughout skill and community building, each student’s dance, vocal, and acting performance will be observed for casting consideration. Every student enrolled will be cast in a role based on performance and class participation.
Phase 2: Rehearsals & Production
The second phase is dedicated to bringing the show to life. Actors will rehearse lines, music, and choreography, while tech members contribute to costumes, sets, and props. Rehearsals will extend to 4:00 PM to allow for additional support. These extended rehearsals are mandatory for all students involved in the production.
Commitment & Expectations
Musical theater is a team effort. We expect students (and parents) to understand the time and energy commitment required. Consistent attendance, respectful listening, and active participation are essential to maintaining a positive, collaborative environment. EXA’s middle school theater program is a space where creativity and teamwork flourish. When we all show up with dedication and respect, every student thrives.

Math Lab: Math & Science Support, Grades 7+
Mr. R

The math and science lab is a structured, hands-on learning space designed to help middle and high school students actively explore concepts instead of just reading about them. It blends problem-solving, and real-world application so students can deepen their understanding of both subjects while working at their own pace.

Description:
TThe math and science lab is a structured, hands-on learning space designed to help middle and high school students actively explore concepts instead of just reading about them. It blends problem-solving, and real-world application so students can deepen their understanding of both subjects while working at their own pace.
In the math portion of the lab, students focus on strengthening core skills like algebra, geometry, ratios, and data analysis. Instead of only completing worksheets, they use tools such as graphing calculators, whiteboards, and interactive software (like Desmos or GeoGebra) to visualize equations, test patterns, and solve real-world problems. Activities might include modeling linear relationships, analyzing statistics from real data, or applying math to budgeting, engineering, or physics scenarios.
The science side of the lab emphasizes concepts across subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. They learn to form hypotheses, collect data, and draw conclusions—mirroring the practices used in real scientific research. Digital tools and simulations (like PhET Interactive Simulations) can also be used to explore concepts that are difficult to replicate physically, such as atomic interactions or motion in space.
A key feature of the lab is flexibility. Students can work independently or in small groups, get help when needed, and revisit challenging topics until they master them. The environment encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving rather than memorization.
Overall, the math and science lab is a supportive, interactive environment where students practice homework, reinforce skills, and explore advanced ideas through hands-on learning, technology, and real-world applications. EXA’s middle school theater program is a space where creativity and teamwork flourish. When we all show up with dedication and respect, every student thrives.
